Breakestra is a ten-piece funk "orchestra" from Los Angeles, California, formed by Miles Tackett in 1996. They've been recording and releasing a collection of EPs and full length records ever since then, and the last time they came to Leeds they tore the roof off at The HiFi Club with a phenomenal sell out show.
Band Onstage At 10pm Sharp!
Miles Tackett, also known as "Musicman", plays bass, guitar, keyboards and drums. He also sings along with Mix Master Wolf, who is heard on their cover of "Baby Don't Cry", or on their single "You Don't Need A Dance", for instance. The style in which the band plays is much influenced by late 60's and early 70's soul and funk music, and as The Live Mix, Part 1 and The Live Mix, Part 2 show, they pay a truthful tribute to more or less obscure 45 rpm records, and to artists such as James Brown, The Meters, The Third Guitar, The Mohawks,...
After releasing several EPs and two full-length albums of mostly covers and sample-filled breaks, Breakestra put out Hit the Floor in 2005 on Ubiquity Records, which included all-original recordings fusing elements of hip-hop, funk, and soul. They’re touring the release of their brand new album ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ and it’s their first appearance in Leeds for 4 years!
New Bohemia continues after Breakestra with main man A Man Named Miles on the decks for a DJ Set from the Stonesthrow artist and founder of legendary LA clubnight Root Down!
